Deux nouveautés:
1. Haynes Moon Manual
by David M. Harland
There is renewed interest in the Moon in recent years, with the news that a Chinese lunar rover landed on the Moon in January 2014, and NASA announcing that it is looking for private partners to land a robot on the Moon's surface, as the first step in a programme to exploit the commercial opportunities offered by the Moon. Recent lunar expeditions by both orbiting spacecraft and 'landers' have uncovered far more detail about the Moon's surface and geology, including the trail of Neil Armstrong's first walk on the Moon in 1969.
This manual explains in simple and straightforward terms, with a wealth of illustrations and photographs, what we have discovered about the Moon over the centuries, along with a general overview of the vehicles involved in the exploration.
Hardcover: 176 pages

2. Haynes North American X-15 Owners' Workshop Manual
by David Baker
A unique Haynes Manual, providing fascinating technical insight into the development and use of rocket planes, focusing on the iconic X-15, which carried out much of the development work for the Apollo and space shuttle programs.
As of July 2015, the X-15 still holds the world record for the highest speed ever attained by a manned aircraft, at 4,520 mph (Mach 6.72)! The X-15 was flown by a band of elite test pilots, including the first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong. The X-15 made 199 flights between 1959 and 1968, several of which were above the line considered to be the arbitrary altitude where space begins.
The engaging text, extensively illustrated with period photographs and technical illustrations, explains how the vehicle worked, what it pioneered for future applications in more conventional aircraft and manned spacecraft developed by NASA from 1958, and what it was like to fly.

NASA Saturn V manual (Haynes Manuals)
by David Woods
$36.95
Few launch vehicles are as iconic and distinctive as NASA's behemoth rocket, the Saturn V, and none left such a lasting impression on those who watched it ascend. Developed with the specific brief to send humans to the Moon, it pushed rocketry to new scales. Its greatest triumph is that it achieved its goal again and again with an enviable record of mission success. Haynes' Saturn V Manual tells the story of this magnificent and hugely powerful machine. It explains how each of the vehicle's three stages worked; Boeing's S-IC first stage with a power output as great as the UK's peak electricity consumption, North American Aviation's S-II troubled second stage, Douglas's workhorse S-IVB third stage with its instrument unit brain - as much a spacecraft as a rocket. From the decision to build it to the operation of its engines' valves and pumps, this lavishly illustrated and deeply informative book offers a deeper appreciation of the amazing Saturn V.
About the Author
David Woods turned his boyhood fascination with Apollo into a lifelong passion. He combined his deep interest with an ability to explain complex technical subjects to the layperson, and has written extensively about Apollo and the technical challenges it presented. David curates the Apollo Flight Journal for NASA, detailing the moment-by-moment reality of flying to the Moon. He is the co-author of both the Haynes Lunar Rover and Gemini Manuals.

Astronaut: 1961 onwards (all roles and nationalities) An insight into the selection, training, equipment, roles and experiences of astronauts
by Ken McTaggart & David Woods
$36.95
The book will inform the space enthusiast and general reader about what an astronaut does, the experience of space flight, the equipment he uses, and what it takes to become an astronaut. It will also appeal to aspiring 'spaceflight participants' in the forthcoming new industry of space tourism being developed by Virgin Galactic, XCOR, Bigelow, Space-X, Boeing and other companies. Although concentrating on contemporary astronaut selection and flight, especially with NASA, ESA and Russia, it will also cover astronaut experiences of pioneering missions of the past and some proposed for the near future, such as lunar flight and landing, asteroid rendezvous and travel to Mars.
About the Author
Dr Ken MacTaggart is Co-Editor (with David Woods) of the Apollo 11 Flight Journal, NASA's official record of the mission, with accompanying technical commentary. He is also a long -standing contributor to NASA's Apollo Lunar Surface Journal. Et pour le mois de juin 2017, le manuel de la capsule Mercury:
NASA Mercury manual
by David Baker (Author)
$36.95
Full coverage of the design, engineering, development and flight operations of NASA's Mercury spacecraft, which in addition to several unmanned tests supported two piloted ballistic sub-orbital flights in 1961 and four piloted orbital flights between 1962 and 1963.The Mercury programme bridged the gap between the hypersonic X-15 and the two-man Gemini spacecraft, which in turn led to the Apollo spacecraft. MERCURY - AMERICA'S FIRST PILOTED SPACECRAFT 1958-1963 completes the Haynes Workshop manual series of US and Russian piloted space vehicles and serves as a precursor to a possible Hynes Workshop Manual on the NASA Orion deep-space exploration vehicle scheduled to fly in 2018 on the Space Launch System, the world's biggest rocket. The emphasis in the book will on describing the design, engineering and technology of the Mercury spacecraft rather than on the missions, which are comprehensively covered in several previously published books. In this way the Workshop Manual brand line is maintained as a reference to the way machines are built and operated.

NASA Skylab Owners' Workshop Manual (Haynes Manuals)
by David Baker (Author)
$36.95
Skylab has a fascination among space professionals and enthusiasts alike and a book on the engineering and design of this space station has been argued for in blogs and chat rooms for many years. No other book has yet been published which describes the technical, design and engineering details of how Skylab was built and operated. There have been several biographies by astronauts relating their experiences on Skylab missions, but no comparable book on the technical aspects of this extraordinary programme.
About the Author
Dr. David Baker worked with NASA on the Gemini, Apollo and Shuttle programmes between 1965 and 1990. He has written more than 80 books on spaceflight technology and is the author of the Haynes NASA Space Shuttle Manual, International Space Station Manual, NASA Mars Rovers Manual, Apollo 13 Manual, Soyuz Manual, Rocket Manual and forthcoming Hubble Space Telescope Manual. He lives in East Sussex.

Large Hadron Collider Manual (Haynes Manuals)
by Gemma Lavender
Pre-order
$36.95
What is the universe made of? How did it start? This Manual tells the story of how physicists are seeking answers to these questions using the world’s largest particle smasher – the Large Hadron Collider – at the CERN laboratory on the Franco-Swiss border. Beginning with the first tentative steps taken to build the machine, the digestible text, supported by color photographs of the hardware involved, along with annotated schematic diagrams of the physics experiments, covers the particle accelerator’s greatest discoveries – from both the perspective of the writer and the scientists who work there. The Large Hadron Collider Manual is a full, comprehensive guide to the most famous, record-breaking physics experiment in the world, which continues to capture the public imagination as it provides new insight into the fundamental laws of nature.

NASA operations manual
by David Baker
$36.95
This book will provide for the first time a comprehensive manual on how NASA works and operates its programmes, opening the door to the general reader, and the visitor to NASA facilities, a directory of information on what to find, what to see and how it all fits together. This book avoids the detail on specific programmes and projects – these are already adequately covered in dedicated Haynes Workshop Manuals. Instead, it focuses on what exists at the various facilities across the United States and the technical parameters of their equipment and laboratory assets.

NASA Saturn 1/1B Launch Vehicles Owners' Workshop Manual: An insight into the technology, engineering and operational history of NASA's first and last Apollo launch vehicle
by David Baker
The Saturn I and IB series of rockets fulfilled plans developed in the late 1950s to build a rocket which could triple the existing thrust levels of US rockets and equal the lifting capacity of the Soviet Union, launching satellites and spacecraft weighing more than 10 tonnes into Earth orbit and do it by the early 1960s. Three times more powerful than anything launched by America to that date, with a cluster of eight rocket motors for the first stage, the first Saturn I flew on 27 October 1961 and propelled America into the heavy-lift business It was the Saturn 1, and its successor the Saturn IB, with a more powerful second stage, that did all the preparatory work getting NASA ready to put men on the Moon. The Saturn I and IB was used on 19 launches, including the first manned Apollo spacecraft, Apollo 7 in 1968, all three Skylab flights in 1973 and the last Apollo spacecraft flown in support of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project in 1975.

Saturn's Moon Titan Owners' Workshop Manual
by Dr Ralph D. Lorenz
Titan is a moon of Saturn, most recently explored by the Cassini/Huygens probes. Titan is of huge interest to scientists, as the conditions in its atmosphere and on its surface bears a striking similarity to those of early Earth. It is thought that there is a realistic possibility that forms of primitive life could develop - or may already have developed - on the surface or in the oceans of Titan. As a result, there are plans to send further probes to Titan in order to further explore the conditions on its surface and in its oceans. The theme of the book is how Titan works 'as a planet', with an emphasis on illustrating the features and processes of Titan - where the conditions and materials can be exotic - with familiar analogues from the Earth or other planets. The book will include numerous images from the field, the air and satellites to show comparable features on Earth or other planets. The final chapter, discusses Titan in practical terms as an environment for humans in the future, bringing the place 'to life' (somewhat in a science fiction style, but grounded in fact). Images of geographical and geological features on Earth will be used to illustrate the parallels with Titan.
